Deaths

Submitted by Karen Small.

Hannah Babcock Obit from Saint Croix Courier April 9 1903 . After a long and painful illness of over a year,Mrs.Hannah Babcock, widow of the late Wilder Babcock of Upper Mills, passed to her eternal rest on Thursday morning.Mrs.Babcock had been ill for more than a year but endured her suffering............ Deceased was born in Princeton, Maine April 18,1830 and was 73 years old at the time of her death. Her maiden name was Dresser and on Jan 27th,1886 she married Wilder Babcock. Her husband died in 1893 ,leaving two boys Wilder and William .

**Please note there is no indication that Hannah Babcock's husband was from Campobello. But it is a Campobello name so I have posted it in the event it is. If you can confirm this please contact me . Karen adds the following... "Now the strange thing about this is that she was married and her hubby died in 1893,HOWEVER I find a Hannah Babcock widow with a son in 1861 census, same age etc as this gal would be. I do not know whether she is of the Campobello Babcocks but suspect so as there was only one other family named Babcock in 1861." **

Wilson's Beach, Campobello, Oct. 30 - The community was saddened when it was learned that Mr. and Mrs. Wesley Malloch had been notified that their son, Howard, has paid the supreme sacrifice in Italy, with the Canadian Army. The telegram stated that he died if wounds received on October 9. Tpr. Malloch was the second son of Mr. and Mrs. Malloch, and was 26 years of age. He was a member of L.O.L. No.117, and was well liked by everyone. He enlisted in Saint John on July 27, 1940, took his initial training at Camp Borden, and proceeded overseas in October, 1941, and had been in action in Italy for some time. He leaves to mourn beside his parents, three sisters and one brother and a host of friends. The sympathy is extended to the bereaved parents and family.

Former Campobello Family Loses Two Sons Added September 2009

Campobello, August 14 - The cruel hand of war regards no equitable distribution of sorrow and tragedy when seeking whom it may destroy. Of late the island relatives and friends of Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Johnston, now living in Vancouver, have received word that a second of their sons has been killed while serving in the R.C.A.F. overseas. Early in the war, a son, Huntley Johnston, aged 22, a Lt.-Gunner in the R.C.A.F. on duty. Now his younger brother, William, just over 19 years of age, and also a gunner, meets a like fate. The only other son is also serving in the R.C.A.F. overseas. A daughter, Margaret, is at home.
Mr. and Mrs. Johnston, in their youth, were residents of Welchpool. From here their moved to Glendon, Alberta, and lately to Vancouver. Mr. Johnston was a son of the late James and Susan Johnston and brother Harvey and Albert, still live here. Mrs. Johnston was Miss Blanche Alexander, a teacher, and daughter of the late John and Louise Alexander of Welchpool. Rev. J.J. Alexander of Moncton is a brother as is also Wells at home. The family also have five sisters away from Welchpool. The sympathy of the entire community goes out in full measure to these, our sorrowing and martyed friends.
