I was born Doris Marie THOMAS. My father, Raymond Louis THOMAS, died when I was 6 years old and I was adopted by my stepfather. The only thing I know about my father is that he was related to the RAYNE family of Willards/Powellville through his mother's genealogy. I don't know her name. His first cousin was Dorothy "Sis" Rayne Brittingham (married to Thomas). Parents of "Sis" were Joel Edgar Rayne, Sr. and Marie Davis Rayne of Willards. Joel and Marie Rayne had 7 children: Hilda Rayne Shockley, "Sis" Brittingham, Betsy Rayne White, Josephine Rayne Nock, Alice Rayne Donoway, Joel Rayne, Jr. and Edward Rayne. My grandmother died when my father was young. She had my father and several daughters. When she died, my grandfather (? David Thomas) raised my father and adopted the daughters out in the community. Any information on this lineage would be greatly appreciated. My mother, Alice Marie Brasure Thomas Bunting, is deceased and was not forthcoming with information on my father's side of the family.

I am seeking information and ancestry regarding George MELSON (1878 - 1964), wife Martha (1882 - 1973), and daughter Coral (1903 - 1978) who are buried in the Sharpton Fireman's Cemetery in Sharpton, MD, Wicomico County. I believe that they are the same family that was living in Camden, NJ in the 1920 census, with children Martha, Coral, Alice and Margaret. George W. MELSON, b. Jan. 28, 1878 (supposedly in Philadelphia, PA) and d. in Feb. 1964, was a shipwright. George MELSON, listed in the 1920 census, but born in MD with wife Martha and children worked for a ship company. I am trying to verify that these are/are not the same people and would like to know George W.'s ancestry. Any help in this quest appreciated.

After my last posting in December, 2003 I found out that my genetic father, Raymond Lewis THOMAS connection with the RAYNES of Willards is as follows: My father's cousin, Thomas BRITTINGHAM was married to Dorothy "Sis" Rayne. So by blood, there is no RAYNE connection. The connection is that Thomas BRITTINGHAM and my father, Raymond Lewis THOMAS, were cousins. My grandmother's name was Lillie BRITTINGHAM THOMAS. My grandfather's name was David R. THOMAS. I have no idea when they died or where they are buried. Lillie BRITTINGHAM and Thomas BRITTINGHAM'S father were sister and brother. Any help would be appreciated.
