From: David L. Cummings
Subject: Trying to locate a distant cousin.
Date: Mon., 06 July 2009

 Hi-

I am trying to locate a living distant cousin James K. Cummings, born in 1962. He was the son of Matthew R. and Patricia Delores (Solms) Cummings. Ruth (Crichton) Cummings was a first wife of Matthew. I don't know if there was death or divorce, but the second wife Patricia was the mother of the children., and was most recently living in Lihue and Kalaheo, Kauai. I have his ancestry back to Joseph Comins, b. ca 1680, of Hopkinton, MA and can trace the family's movements to CT, NY, WI, SD, CA, and HI. I would like to correspond with him regarding his ancestry and compare notes with my research. My e-mail address is [email protected].
I am a Cummings family researcher, and have worked on various Cummings lines for over 20 years. Most recently, the my work covered the ancestry of Thomas Booth Cummings who came to Maui in the 1840s.

Thank you.

Subject: Laszlo De Csaby, Cemetery in Lihue
Date: Sun, 15 Apr 2007

 Hi-

I am looking for information on Laszlo De Csaby, my husbands great uncle. Laszlo was born May 10, 1901 in Veszprem, Hungary. He immigrated to Canada in the 1920s and to the US sometime after 1942. He died in Lihue on September 14, 1996. I was hoping to find the cemetery where he was buried in Lihue. I would appreciate any information available.

Thank you.

From: Chuck
Subject: German contract / indentured immigrants to Kauai
Date: Thu, 6 Oct 2005

Between April 28 and May 2nd, 1883, the ship Ehrensfels from Bremen, Germany arrived at Honolulu with 806 immigrant workers - nearly all were to be assigned to 2 plantations on Kauai - Lihu'e and Koloa Plantations.  I am trying to determine if H. BISSEN [Henry William Bissen] who is listed on the ship manifest actually made it to Kauai to enter his indentured service.
Family lore says he jumped ship in Hana - and sometime before 1889, he married there had a family and and later remarried with a 2nd family on Maui and died in Honolulu after a fall at a construction site.
Are records available as to employee records for these plantations and are they searchable?
Your help and advice will be very much appreciated.
Chuck
