John WHITE, b 18 Feb 1780, Darlington District, SC; m 1805 to Lydia MORGAN (b 25 Dec 1784, SC). John was a blacksmith. He and Lydia migrated abt 1806 through Tennessee to East Feliciana Parish, LA. Looking for proof of parents of Lydia MORGAN (formerly married to William TIMMONS and their son John Morgan TIMMONS is minister for whom Timmonsville, SC is named). Looking for parents of John WHITE? Some say he was first married to a BRIAN. He has son Evander WHITE, b abt 1810 in LA and this Evander name keeps turning up in close connection with WHITE in Darlington. Are there any clues in this? Love to correspond with and share with anyone on these lines. Dec 1996

I am collecting information on the ancestors and descendants of African American slaves and former slaves of the WILDS family of Darlington County, and would like to share information with anyone interested. Samuel Hugh WILDS owned about 150 slaves in 1860 and his uncle Peter Abel WILDS owned about 90. Some of them used the surname WILDS, while others took other names, including BROCKINGTON. I can trace many families to 16 slaves owned by Samuel WILDS in 1803, with some lines extending back to the 1770s.

Any African-American WILDS family of Darlington, Marlboro, Florence and probably Lee and Sumter Counties seems to be connected to these families. Also, I have some information on BROCKINGTON families, descendants of slaves of Richard and Mary BROCKINGTON (she died in 1853), and on slaves owned by Peter Abel WILDS father-in-law, John TERRIL, and his grandfather Philip PLEDGER.

Also, beginning to collect information on descendants of slaves of Robert LIDE (d. 1803), father-in-law of Nancy LIDE WILDS, wife of Samuel (d. 1803). Will be glad to share all.

I am Samuel Hugh WILDS' great great grandson. Have much data on early white WILDS in Wales, Delaware and SC.

I am looking for information on John Randall WILLIAMS (b 11 apr 1834, d 17 May 1906). He married Argent Kelly (b 1837). I am told there are two Williams' (John H. WILLIAMS, and William WILLIAMS) listed in the Darlington 1840 Census, and am hoping one of them is John Randall's father. He and his wife Argent moved to what is now Union County, Florida, and there are many many descendants here. Would greatly appreciate any information on John Randal WILLIAMS and Argent KELLY. Thanks. YARBOROUGH - WILLIAMSON
Kay Yarborough Goff
invalid email - anyone knowing contact info, please contact [email protected]

Looking for info on YARBOROUGH family that can be found in the Darlington County 1850 census..James,Mary E.,Isiah. They are not in the 1860 census. I have reason to believe Mary left the area without James and Isiah and moved into what was Williamsburg Co. and now Florence Co. My grandfather Ernest Linwood YARBOROUGH, had 14 children and several of them have middle names similar to Darlington Co. families in the Society Hill area..Dove ,Lide, Harrel...so I believe that Ernest may be connected to the James, Mary, Isiah in the census.

There is conflicting belief within the family as to whether Ernest's father was named James or Billy. Also there appears to be some connection to the WILLIAMSON family because two WILLIAMSON sisters from Darlington are said to have visited the family regularly in the years between 1900-1935. Also it is believed that one was named Clara and she was a nurse and when there was illness in the family she would always come to provide care.

If there is someone who has researched the WILLIAMSON family and would know what the connection might be to the YARBOROUGH family, it would give me some clues I need to proceed. Jan 1997

YOUNG - SCROGLE
William D. Young
[email protected]

Looking for info re Joel YOUNG born about 1801-1804? - married Sarah SCROGLE (born about 1814?). In the 1850 census with four children: Sarah; Caroline; Martha; Elizabeth; another child, William, was not yet born as he was 19 in the 1870 census with a younger sister, Mary.
Also looking for other lines but these are best documented. William D. YOUNG remained in Darlington Co until his death in 1915.
