Life in England: Orphaned young, Bradford was raised first by his grandfather, then by uncles. At the age of twelve, he became an avid reader of the Bible, and began attending Separatist services in Scrooby. Against the wishes of the family he joined the Separatist church at sixteen and went with the congregation to Holland two years later.
Life in Holland: The Scrooby congregation, lived first in Amsterdam, then in Leiden. He worked as a weaver, and in 1612 became a citizen of Leiden. In 1617, he was appointed one of the organizers of the voyage to "Virginia" (America).
Life in New England: Appointed governor after the death of John Carver in the summer of 1621, Bradford held the office from 1621 to 1656, except for five years service as Governor's Assistant. The colony's most prolific author, he wrote the journal known as Mourt's Relation with Edward Winslow, three "Dialogues," and the colony's history.

In the 1861 census, she is at St. Brigid's, identified as the "matron", along with a Mary Bradley, age 69, widow, born in Ireland, undoubtedly her mother. In the 1861 and 1871 censuses, she gives her birthplace as "West Indies".

The baptismal record abstracted from the original French on the JamaicanFamilySearch.com web site gives the names of the parents as Robert Bradly, Doctor of Medicine, and Marie Ann Bradly. The sponsors for the baptism were Thomas Legal Yates and Elizabeth Horn Nitles. The baptisms of the other children of Robert Bradley have not been located, they were not noted in this series of abstracts from the church books of Holy Trinity Church. Elizabeth must have died young, as she does not seem to appear in any of the records of this family in Quebec and is not mentioned in her father's will.

One of the witnesses for his marriage was his uncle William Power, judge. We did not find his baptism in Quebec. It is possible he was born in Jamaica, like his sisters, but as he is supposed to have served with the British forces in the Peninsular War 1809-1814, it may be that Joseph was born in Europe, before his father became a plantation owner in Jamaica.

The death record at St. Patrick's in Quebec reads: "Le quatre Aout, mil huit cent trente, Nous Pretre Vicaire de Qu�bec, soussign�, avons inhum� dans le Cimetiere des Picotes, Robert Bradley, Ecuyer, m�decin, �poux de Mary Ann Power, d�c�d� avant hier en cette ville, ag� de soixante-dix ans. Presens Messieurs Fran�ois Menard et Charles Hianveu soussign�s..." In the margin, the name of the deceased is listed as "Sieur Robert Bradley". Some unknown failed to recognize the title (and failed to read the text of the entry as well), resulting in an index entry for this record on Ancestry.com as "Iriene Robert Bradley"! Another person who found this same record imagined that the present Robert Bradley was the same person as a slave of the same name noted in Jamaica, born about 1797!
Two of Robert's children (Catherine and Mary Ann) indicated on census records that they had been born in the West Indies, and Catherine's death record says she was born in Jamaica. So far, we have found very few records of Dr. Robert Bradley in Jamaica, apart from the burial record of his wife, which calls him "the late Robert Bradley, Esquire, M. D,. of Kingston, Jamaica", and his will (see below).
Further information is found in the Bradley family papers (Library and Archives of Canada, Ottawa, Bradley family fonds MG55/24-No446, 1828-1927). The description of this collection on the library web site says, in part: "Family papers including legal documents, commissions, correspondence and notes relating to the Bradley family, 1828-1927. Originals, 61 pages. A genealogical chart (file 1) has been removed from circulation for conservation purposes. A photostat copy of it is available in horizontal storage for reference purposes, container 2. Dr. Robert Bradley, born in Ireland, served in the British Army in the Peninsular War and settled in Jamaica, having acquired a plantation there. Upon the abolition of slavery in 1828 he emigrated to Quebec. Robert Bradley's son was Joseph Power Bradley (d. ca.1868), an advocate in Quebec, who married Aurelia Aylwin. Their son was Robert Joseph Bradley, also an advocate who was called to the bar of L[ower] C[anada] in 1867." Some of this information is clearly incorrect — for example, Joseph's death occurred in 1850, not 1868, as evidenced by a very clear burial record!
It might be possible to locate the Jamaican part of this story through the slave registers for the British West Indies (U.K. National Archives, T 71, dates ranging from 1817 to 1832) or from other records in the same repository relating to colonial affairs in Jamaica.
The Bradley family papers from the Library and Archives of Canada contain the original will of Robert Bradley:

I Robert Bradley of the parish of Saint Andrew in the County of Surry in the said island esquire being of sound mind memory and understanding do make publish and declare this my last will and testament in manner and form following, that is to say, it is my will that all my just debts and funeral charges be paid as soon after my decease as possible to the payment whereof I do hereby subject all my estate real and personal. All the rest residue and remainder of my estate real personal or mixt whatsoever and wheresoever I give devise and bequeath unto my wife Mary Ann Bradley and her assigns upon trust and confidence out of the rents issues profits and produce thereof to maintain support and educate herself and my three children named Joseph Power, Catherine, and Anna Maria for and during the natural life of my said wife, and from and immediately after the decease of my said wife I give devise and bequeath my said residuary estate unto and among my said three children their heirs and assigns forever equally share and share alike as tenants in common and not as joint tenants with benefit of survivorship among them. I hereby nominate constitute and appoint my said wife executrix and my said son on his attaining a proper age executor of this my last will and testament revoking all former and other will or wills by me heretofore made, and I declare this to be my last will and testament. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this tenth day of December in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and twenty Eight. [Signed] Robt. Bradley.

A few records have been found on the jamaicanfamilysearch.com web site. An "almanac" for 1829 shows Robert Bradley, property owner at Belmont, in the western district of St. Andrew's Parish, Surry County, with 20 slaves. Perhaps more interesting, there is a baptism at Holy Trinity Church (Roman Catholic) in Kingston, 03 jun 1826, for Elizabeth Yates Bradly, born 05 may 1825 in Kingston, daughter of Dr. Robert Bradly and Marie Ann his wife, evidently a child who did not survive.
The Archives of Brock University (St. Catharines, Ontario, Canada) has a collection including several letters and legal documents from the Bradley family (R G 519, Woodruff Family Fonds, 1784-1984, Series 24 A, 8.18). One of these is described as a letter to J. P. Bradley (evidently Joseph Power Bradley, son of the present Robert Bradley) from his "brother" Dr. John Bradley, 28 oct 1847, in which the latter discusses settling in Pottsville, Schuylkill Co., Pennsylvania to serve the Castlecomer (Irish) coal miners there. So far, we have no additional information about this man. Two other letters involve another "brother", Samuel, in 1839 and 1840. The letters are digitized on the Brock University Archives web site. Dr. John Bradley's letter says that Joseph, whom he has only recently met for the first time, is his only relative in Canada (apart from Joseph's mother and sisters, to whom Dr. Bradley sends his regards), and that Dr. Bradley has recently arrived in Canada. Clearly, Dr. Bradley is not a brother of Joseph, but only a distant relative. Samuel, apparently a merchant residing in Rimouski, Quebec, is likewise apparently not a close relative, and might even be completely unrelated, as he writes in French and addresses Joseph as "Monsieur" and "votre serviteur tr�s d�vou�". There is no evidence in this correspondence that would support a relationship of "brother" for either man, in spite of what the inventory of the collection says.
He is supposed to have served with the British Army in the Peninsular War (1809-1814) according to a note concerning a desk he had owned, in the hand of Florence Isabelle Bradley, in the Bradley family papers — hardly a definitive source! Also, there is nothing to indicate where he met his wife, or where they were married. Her father Michael Power, like other merchant ship owners, likely divided his time between Waterford and Canada, so it is certainly possible that Mary Ann met Bradley in Waterford.
The records in Jamaica contain several mentions of a Lucy Porter, "free brown" woman (as of 1825), who had at least two children by a Robert Bradley, but there is so far no information to connect this Robert Bradley with the one who married Mary Ann Power. In fact, that Robert Bradley may himself have been a slave, born about 1797. The baptismal register at Kingston says that John and James Bradley, twin children of Lucy Porter, "free brown", by Robert Bradley, were born 12 jun 1822 and baptised 02 apr 1825. We were unable to find any further mention of them.

In the 1881 census, we note that Robert was Catholic, and his wife Isabella was Anglican. At that time, their sons were listed as Catholic, and their daughters Anglican, a tradition dating back to the first accommodations for interdenominational families in 17th Century France and probably elsewhere.

She survived long enough to be listed in the 1841 census at Workington, age 77. According to the terms of her husband's will of 1814, she was to have the use of his estate for the remainder of her life, provided she did not remarry. Upon her death, the estate was to revert to their children, in equal shares. So far, no probate documents relating to her succession have been located. If there were any estate left, we might expect that there would be an enumeration of the heirs, which should have included Marion Danson and Thisbe Danson, at least. The official death certificate has not been examined, it might provide further details.
Although the age at death would be off by several years (not an unusual occurrence), she may be the Frances Bragg who was baptised at Whitehaven (St. James) 21 mar 1767, daughter of Henry Bragg. This Henry may be the same one married in 1748 at Isell to Sarah Lightfoot. Since one of the children was named Henry Bragg Danson, this seems the most likley parentage.
After the death of her husband, she took over management of the ship Frances until it was sold in 1821. Exactly how she did this is not clear, as she apparently could not write her own name. In 1822, the other former owners sued in the Court of Chancery for unpaid proceeds from the operation of the Frances. In the course of this action, the plaintiffs cited numerous errors in the accounts for the ship, both during the period when John Danson was "Ship's Husband" as well as after his death. Two audits placed the amount of the discrepancy at around £ 800. Among other errors, the other owners claimed that sums received in Irish currency had been booked as if they were English currency, but Frances claimed the currency conversion had already been done prior to booking these amounts. So far, only the "pleadings" and "answers" from this suit in Chancery have been recovered from the UK National Archives (C 13/794 and 812). Other documents that might have been generated from this action, such as affidavits, orders, or decrees, will have to be found through several series of index volumes at the Archives. C 13/794 mentions a son-in-law John Foster, whose marriage to Frances Danson is found in the church records in 1816. This John Foster, a printer, was related in some way to one of the auditors, George Irven. When Frances answered the "pleadings", she did not sign, but rather made an X. On the face of it, she would have not been able to keep the books, but she might have directed someone else in the household to do so, perhaps her daughter Mary.
