BUTLER County was organized February 27, 1849 from: Wayne County
and named for William O. Butler, a Kentucky Congressman.
  
Gov. Austin King, appointed the three original county commissioners: Solomon Kittrell, Jonathan Sandlin, and John Stevenson. They held their first meeting June 18, 1849.
The County Seat is Poplar Bluff Mo.

The Clerk of the Circuit Court has: Marriage, Divorce, and Civil Court Records.
