St. Mary's Cemetery, 80 Memorial Blvd., Newport, RI
Transcribed and Submitted by Beth Hurd
The cemetery is affiliated with St. Mary's Church, which was built in the early 1850s when the congregation outgrew the previous Catholic church, St. Joseph's. These were among the earliest Catholic churches in Rhode Island, with a primarily Irish congregation. There are about 500 burials in the cemetery. This cemetery has been included in the Rhode Island Historical Cemetery Database Index. We are very grateful to Beth Hurd for her contribution of these transcriptions, which are in progress.
