and put only the word

in the body of the message. You will then receive confirmation by e-mail. Please do not put anything in the subject line and turn off all signature lines.
If you prefer to receive your messages as a Digest, send your subscribe message to the following address instead

(A "Digest" is when several e-mail messages sent to a mailing list are collected and sent to you in one message.)

How to Send a Message to the Mailing List
You send a message to Montana-L at this address
[email protected]
It makes no difference whether you are subscribed to the Digest or receive your messages one at a time. Everyone uses this address for sending messages to the list. Please note that Montana-L is a closed mailing list. This means that you must subscribe in order to send a message to the list.
How to retrieve a list of archived Montana-L messages

You will receive a message that looks like this

Ignore everything except the far right column. This column contains: File Size in Byres, Date and Time the Message was Created,and the message number. This number is what you will use to retrieve a message from the list.

How to search archived Montana-L messages
You can search using
Or you can do the following:
send email to

in the "Subject:" area put
Archive
in the body of the message put
search xxxxxxxxxx latest/*
OR
egrep xxxxxxxxxx latest/*
(Where xxxxxxxxxx is the word you want to search for in all the individual messages.)
You will receive a message that looks like this
| search kalispell latest/*
BEGIN---------------cut here------------------ latest/10:31:Kalispell, Montana, but unfortunately can't find the original query .... latest/11:20:From The Daily Inter Lake, Kalispell, Montana, Tues, May 23, 1922 latest/11:24:northeast of Kalispell at the age of 63 years. In this message the message number is the first number after "latest/" and it is what you will use to retrieve a message from the list. See How to retrieve a specific messsage.
How to retrieve a specific message
Send email to
[email protected]
in the "Subject:" area put
archive
in the body of the message put
get latest/xx
where XX is the number of the message you desire.
