Local
Libraries and Archives....
Below is a list of resources
that will be of use to researchers interested in learning more about
Greene County.
Drury
University Library
The Olin
Library includes the Ozarks Folk Life Project and the Special
Collections and Archives area. Among the records in Special Collections
are the University Archives and papers of notable alumni.
Evangel
University
The Evangel
University Library houses the official college archives, including
photographs, student publications, oral history tapes, and other
records. Perhaps Evangel's premiere collection is the O'Reilly
Hospital Collection. Evangel University has stood on the site
of this World War II hospital since 1954.
Flower
Pentecostal Heritage Center
The Flower Pentecostal Heritage Center
collects, preserves, and provides access to materials pertinent
to the understanding of Assemblies of God history. It reaches this
goal through its museum, research center, and a quarterly publication.
Greene
County Archives and Records Center
Opened in
1987, the Archives is the central repository for official Greene
County records. In addition to its official function the Archives
serves as an active county and regional research center.
History Museum on the Square
For over
three decades History Museum on the Square (formerly The History Museum for Springfield-Greene County) has worked to preserve the history
of our region. The photograph holdings are particularly strong,
with more than 20,000 historical photographs preserving images
of Springfield from its beginnings. Currently the research room
is not open on a daily basis; check the Museum's website for details.
Missouri
State University - Special Collections & Archives
There are
five units in Special Collections and Archives at Missouri State:
The Ozarkiana Collection contains books and manuscript collections
dealing with the Missouri Ozarks and Southwest Missourians; the
University Archives serves to collect and store the institutional
memory of the university; the Ozarks Labor Union Archives contains
records of over 100 labor unions in the Ozarks and Missouri; the
William Jack Jones French Literature Collection concentrates on
French literature; and Rare Books and General Special Collections
includes books that are rare, antique, or fragile.
Springfield-Greene
County Public Library
Researchers
will find a wide range of resources on the culture, arts and history
of the Missouri Ozarks, Greene County, and Springfield at the
Local History and Genealogy Department. Located at the Library
Center, the department also makes a wide range of resources available
digitally through their website.
