Franklin County was founded January 15, 1777 From New York's Charlotte County.

County seat (Shire Towns): St. Albans.

Located in northwestern Vermont, with Orleans County to the east, Quebec, Canada to the north, and Chittenden, and Lamoille to the south, Grand Isle to its west.
