Burns Are Fatal To City Woman

Fay Gootee, 65, of 2306 S Lee died in Mercy hospital Wednesday of burns received when her nightgown was ignited by a heater in her home. Hospital attendants said she suffered second degree burns over 90 percent of her body. District Fire Chief Harold L. Barton said the victim apparently backed into the open heater and her gown caught fire. She managed to put the flames out in her bathtub before summoning help by telephone.
