About Morrill County Nebraska
Morrill County established in 1909 out of the northern half of Cheyenne County. In the early days of the settlement of the great land area west of the Missouri River, the area including Morrill County was crossed by the many trails used by the settlers moving through. From 1843 to 1869, thousands of emigrants followed leaving deep ruts on the prairie as evidence of their passing. The Oregon Trail followed along the south side of the North Platte River. On the north side of the river, the Mormons made their way to Utah on the Mormon Trail from 1846 through 1868. The Pony Express passed through Morrill County, as did the Sidney-Deadwood Trail and the Overland Stage route. Early towns included Bridgeport, Bayard, Angora, Redington, Northport and Broadwater. The post offices at Redington and Northport discontinued.

About the Morrill County Coordinator
My name is Matthew D. Friend. I am the Morrill County Coordinator. I live in Arkansas, so I cannot do personal lookup for you, however if you need any lookup, visit our volunteered "Lookups" link and see whose available for your needs. There are many wonderful volunteers for our county. If you have any ancestors who lived during Morrill County's first official census records of 1910; I will be glad to do lookup for you during this period until 1930. Surrounding Neighboring Counties
 | Morrill County is surrounded by the following neighboring counties: On the north side is Box Butte, then touching the northeast corner is Sheridan, although Sioux County doesn't touch but it is just west of Box Butte. On the east side is Garden and on the south side is Cheyenne. Finally, on the west side are Scotts Bluff and Banner, like Sioux County, Kimball County touches Banner County south side border. |
