Records show that on 4 Sep 1877 in Campbell County four children of Maria and John Biggs became wards of James F Shaw; Jefferson Davis Biggs, Lucy H Biggs, Robert A Biggs and William Ernest Biggs. Since this family was already in Shelbyville Illinois by this time, it must have been done in absence.

An obituary published in the Shelbyville Democrat on March 14, 1912 for William Ernest Biggs, stated that he had died at his home on North Walnut (March 11, 1912). William Ernest Biggs, familiarly known as "Colonel" was born in Campbell County, Kentucky, March 6, 1856 and at the age of 10 years came to Shelby County with his parents.* His father was a maker of brick and during his early manhood days, Mr. Biggs worked in his father's brick yard. Of late he had been engaged in farming, having purchased a large farm near Shelbyville. He was united in marriage with Miss Viola Shipman in 1887 and to them were born two daughters who were Mrs. Joseph Dayton of Denver, Colo., and Miss Jessie Biggs of Shelbyville.

*His mother died in 1865 in Flagg Springs and is buried in the Flagg Spring Cemetery.  The 1870 and 1880 census show no other wife for John Milton Biggs.
