His parents were married. William Henry Lansford, b. Putnam Co TN was his father; Harriette E. Pippin, b. Jackson Co, TN, was his mother. The attendant at his birth was deceased. His cousin, Morgan Pippin, of Cookeville, age 78, testified that he had actual knowledge of the birth. W. R. King, age 87, of Putnam Co, also signed that he had knowledge of the birth.
