than 1664
André Morin immigrated no later than 1664 to Notre-Dame-de-Quebec, Quebec, Canada, from the provence of Poiters in France. This area is in West Central France. The voyage to Nouvelle-France took about eight weeks..8,5   Did he come as a Soldier??  There are two Morin's with no first names on the list of Soldats of Carignan. One could be André. They are in company one, that is Berthier company. Pierre is in company 14, ie. La Noraye.10

1666  In 1666 Canada did their first census. Read more about this census and what it did for Canada  HERE

1666 At least 7 Morin men came to New France in this early period.11

Note August 1667 André was a wood supplier, quarryman and a builder of cellars. Records show that he was granted a two and one-half by forty acre parcel of wooded land near Beauport, Québec in August 1667. Beauport appears to be the area just to the east of the city of Quebec on the St. Lawrence river and Charlesbourg is north of the city of Quebec just a bit. Andre is 25 years old on the census of 1667.5

Historical note 1634 Before André came to New France, about 1535, Jacques Cartier noticed a river where six small islands seemed to divide the watercourse into three streams. He called it the rivière de Fouez, (foi being the French word for faith). It later took the name of the rivière Saint Maurice. But it is the appearance of the river that imposes itself as the name of the station built at the confluence of the Saint Lawrence and Saint Maurice rivers: Trois Rivières. Under the orders of Samuel de Champlain in July 1634, the Sieur of La Violette went to the mouth of the Saint Maurice River to set up a trading post. He had a fort built, around which soldiers, settlers and Jesuit missionaries met. For a long time this region held sway as the most advantageous for the activities of trappers and fur traders.12

Marriage #1 26 August 1670 André married Marguerite Moreau, daughter of Francois Moreau and Anne Fiot, 26 August 1670 in Quebec, Quebec, Canada. He was about 25 years old and she was about 20. Marguerite had recently arrived from France as a 'fille-du-Roi' or 'King’s Daughter.' These were young women who had been selected by their parish priest to go to the colony as prospective brides. They were given a dowry of 50 livres for marrying a soldier or farmer (versus 100 livres for marrying an officer), a supply of household items and free passage aboard ship with the expenses picked up by the French royal treasury. In exchange, she was required to marry a soldier or settler and begin raising a family. These young women had fifteen days in which to choose a mate, after which time those who remained unmarried would be returned to France.3,2,4

1681 From a French Quebec site "It is in Charlesbourg that André and Marguerite are established. In 1681, they cultivate a ground of fifteen arpents and have three animals with horns, at the Saint-Joseph village. They had 10 children" Marguerite is 31 years old on this census.6

http://www.nosorigines.qc.ca/GenealogieQuebec.aspx?pid=32255   indicates that his occupation was that of "a tanner".

17 April 1690 André is recorded on these dates as being in the hospital in Quebec: 17-04-1690, 44 ans, 16-07-1697, 47 ans, et 25-02-1698, 52 ans, Hôtel-Dieu Québec.9

20 Oct 1690 On 20 October 1690 his wife of 20 years, Marguerite died at Hôtel-Dieu, Quebec, Canada. She may have died as the result of the birth of her tenth child. This child did not live.4

At the time of the marriage of daughter Apolline in 1692 André is listed as living in St. Bernard's parish and mother as "defunct".

Marriage #2 26 Nov 1696 André Morin married Charlotte Larue, daughter of Georges Larue and Francois Nilocardeau, the widow of Jean-Baptiste Lavanois or Savonois on 26 November 1696 in Charlesbourg, Quebec, Canada. Both Marguerite and Charlotte LaRue were "Fille du Roi".13,14,2
