Company "E" of the 26th Georgia Regiment was previously designated "Old Company "L" from Twiggs County.

 

The new Company "E", now designated Wiregrass Minutemen, is from Ware County, Georgia.

Company "E", Wiregrass Minutemen, made up of men mostly from Ware County, was organized April 18, 1861. Officers election on May 10th, 1861: Captain John Lee; 1st Lt. E. Louis Pearce; 2nd Lt. James Riggins; Jr. 2nd Lt. John A. Hogans.

SAUL, Theophilus J. - Private April 19, 1861. Transferred to Old Compnay B., august 17, 1861; to Company F, April 4, 1862. Wounded in head at Cold Harbor, Va. June 1, 1864. Absent, sick, November 6, 1864. No later record. Resident of Georgia since June 16, 1878(?).

 

SPIVEY, D. P. - Pension records show he enlisted as a private January 1864. Discharged, disability, July 24, 1864. Born in Georgia.

 

SPIVEY, James E. Ervin "Gordon's Bull" - Private April 22, 1861. Appointed 4th Corporal May 10, 1862. Wounded in 1864. Surrendered, Appomattox, Va. April 9, 1865. Buried in Lake Carroll Cemetery, Tampa, FL

 

SPIVEY, John D. - Private April 22, 1861. Appointed 1st Corporal May 10, 1862. Wounded in 1864. Roll dated November 14, 1864, last on file, shows him absent, wounded. At home on wounded furlough close of war.

Severely wounded through left lung at Cedar Creek, Va. October 19, 1864. Paroled at Richmond, Va. in 1865. Resident of Georgia since December 11, 1842.

 

TROWELL, A. John - Private April 18, 1861. Discharged, underage, July 26, 1862. Enlisted as a Private in Company F, 4th Regt. Georgia Cavalry (Clinch's), December 10, 1862. On picket duty June 30, 1862. Pension records show he surrendered at #7, Wayne County, Georgia, April 9, 1865.

 

TROWELL, Joseph E. - Private April 18, 1861. Killed at 2d Manassas, Va. August 28, 1862.

WINDER, Edward P. Private July 19, 1861. Appointed Acting Master's Mate in C. S. Navy and discharged from Army September 29, 1863. Served in said rank in Charleston Squadron in 1864. No later record.

YOUNG, Joseph L. - Private April 20, 1861. Died of typhoid fever in South Carolina Hospital at Charlottesville, Va. July 19, 1862.
