Clayton Library Friends [CLF] was formed in 1987 as the support group of the
Clayton Library Center for Genealogical Research, a unit of the Houston
Public Library. With a yearly average of 900 members, their mission is to
enrich the resources and facilities of Clayton Library.
Since its inception, CLF has raised nearly $9,000,000 for the library. Its
recent 5-year project was the renovation of the William Clayton House which
was the genealogy library before the current building was built.
CLF meets on the second Saturday of the months of February, May, August, and
November at the Clayton Library, 5300 Caroline in Houston. The group also
publishes a quarterly newsletter, The Clayton Advocate.

The purpose of the Dallas Genealogical Society is to educate, by creating,

Sulphur Springs just one block from the county courthouse. Twenty volunteers

collection of published materials the library has a nice assortment of

Houston Genealogical Forum
Since its establishment in 1958,
Houston Genealogical Forum has been committed to being a valuable source for
the newly interested to the certified genealogist. Our free general
meetings and seminars feature topical issues by local and nationally known
experts in all fields of genealogy and history. The Forum's general
meetings are held on the first Saturday of each month from September through
May (dates may change on holiday weekends) at Bayland Community Center, 6400
Bissonnet, Houston, Texas, beginning at 10:00 a.m. Members and guests are

In addition, The Forum has a wide
calendar of activates throughout the year. Classes for the beginning

Presently The Forum is photographing and transcribing hundreds of family
Bibles donated to the Dunham Bible Museum at Houston Baptist University,

Library of Genealogy and Local History at the courthouse annex in Canton 9
to 40 Monday through Friday and 9 to 1 on Saturdays. Organized in 1980 this
society boasts more than 500 members and meets at 2 p.m. on the fourth
