Baptist Revival Straight Creek
Baptist Revival Straight Creek
PINEVILLE, April 11 - The Baptists are holding a revival in the community church at Straight Creek. The Rev. Mr. Roach of Lafollette, Tenn., is the preacher and the singing is being conducted
by Mr. Crawford of Clinton, Tenn. The largest crowds ever assembled in the camp for church services are reported.

Bethel Church

 

September
1867, Appoint Robertson Leach and Aaron Vowell delegates to an Educational
Convention to be held at Bethel Church, Anderson County, Tennessee.

"At their March meeting (1835) they set the May meeting for their Sacramental
season to commence on Friday before the 3rd Saturday thereof, and petitioned
Elders, Joshua Frost, John Clark and Isaac Long; and Levi Adkins, Jacob
Whitman and J. M. Ashurst, Deacons, to attend on that occasion."September
3rd Saturday, (1839), the Church agree to lay over the cases referred from
last meeting, till the next meeting after the decision of the Associations
committee - to meet with them on Friday before the 3rd Saturday in October
next.  Appoint our next meeting a Sacramental meeting to begin on Friday,
and petition Brethren Frost, Hicky and Mynatt as preachers - and Adkins;
Clark, Whitman and Altum as Deacons on the occasion."

"At the February
meeting in 1840 the Church receive a petition from Bethel Church for the
ministerial aid of Clear Branch to assist in constituting a church at Zion
Hill, on Hinds Creek, Friday before the 1st Saturday in April 1840 the
following days to ordain Deacons and administer the Supper-and we say to
Bro. C.H. Bootright, go, if it suits his convenience".
"March 3rd Saturday
1840, at this meeting, the Church agree to have a Communion meeting in
May 1840, and petition Brethren Frost, Hickey, Love, Mynatt, Kennon, Hickel
and Corum to attend and aid in their ministry: and Clark, of New Salem,
Whitman, of Mt. Pleasant, and Adkins, of Bethel Church to attend and aid
as Deacons.  Our meeting to begin on Friday before the 3rd Saturday in
May".
"At the August meeting (1840) they received Fanny Keeney and Mary
E. Bootright, by experience and agree to protract the meeting till the
Monday following as the pastor could not be with them on Sunday, for  purpose
of baptising the two new members; 3rd, agree to hold Sacramental services
at the October meeting and petition Brethren Frost, Sherwood, Reese (note
from AMB, the author Riggs has these as two separate individuals, although
they are the same individual, Sherwood Reese), Gorden Mynatt, and Elijah
Hickey, for ministerial aid and send for Brethren Spence Altum, Jacob Whitman,
Isaac Lindsay, John Clark and Levi Adkins to assist us Deacons." Services
to be held on Friday before the 3rd Saturday in October 1840; 4th , appoint
Brethren C.H. Bootright, William and Joseph Kenney and William Webb delegates
to the next Association to be held with this Church at the October meeting.
The Church join with Mount Pleasant Church, to keep the fourth Saturday
in August as a day of 1
fasting and prayer to Almightly God for the Lord
to turn away His threatened judgements from us as a nation."
August 1842,
3rd Saturday, Appoint C.H. Bootright, Joseph Keeney, Preston Leach and
C.L. Keeney Delegates to the Association.  2nd, Appoint the Friday before
the 3rd Saturday in October for Sacramental occasion and petition Brethren
J. Frost, J. Aldrige, Robert G. Kimbrough, Wm. Hickle, Elijah Hickey, Gorden
Mynatt and L. Reese to attend on the occasion; and petition Deacons from
Zion, Bethel, Mt. Plesant, and Jacksboro churches to aid in the occasion.

August 1844, Experience Meeting, many of the members related their religious
travel and experience.At the regular meeting, set aside regular October
meeting for Sacramental season and invite Revs. Joshua Frost, Levi Adkins,
William Hickle and A. Agee to attend on the occasion.
March, 1845, Elders
Frost, Mynatt, Hickle, Adkins and Reese were invited to attend the Communion
meeting in May and aid in the occasion. "Brother Calvin L. Keeney was privileged
to excercise his gift of exortation - by reading the scriptures and commenting
on the same where-ever his lot might be cast."
July 1845, Appoint Brethren
C.H. Bootright, William Webb, Paul Harmon, Meredith Cravens to represent
the Church at the Association to be held at Bethel Church house, Anderson
county, Tennessee.
September 1845, Set apart the October meeting for Sacramental
meeting to commence in October.  Petition Elders J. Frost, Levi Adkins,
William Hickle, Thomas Lisle, J. Roberts, A. Agee, G. Mynatt and B. Demarcus
to attend and aid in the occasion; and also petition Deacons J. Whitman,
Thomas Dabney, A. Demarcus and L. Altum to aid on the occasion.
March
1846, set apart the May meeting as a Communion meeting and petition Elders
Joshua Frost, Gorden Mynatt, Wm. Hickle, Levi Adkins and Alfred Agee, to
attend and assist in their ministry on the occasion. 
September, 3rd Saturday,
1846, the Church met and after worship set for business.  1st received
the above petition from the Brethren in Morgan county and in wisdom of
the Body we grant their request and petition Elders Joshua Frost, C.H.
Bootright, Levi Adkins, Alfred Agee and Thomas Lisle to serve as a Presbytery
on the occasion, to meet at the new meeting house in Morgan county near
Noah Stonecipher's on Friday before the Second Saturday in November 1846,
and organize their new church.
February 1847, appoint the May session for
Sacramental occasion and invite Elders James R. Haggard, Alfred Agee, Levi
Adkins, Joshua Frost and Robert G. Kimbrough to attend and assist in their
ministry.
May, 3rd Saturday, 1847, Receive a petition from members who
live in the neighborhood near the mouth of Cove creek (AMB:  Cove Lake?),
in Campbell county, Tennessee, to set them apart for organization into
church, which request was granted, and petition Elders J. Frost, James
R. Haggard, Alfred Agee, Levi Adkins to act as a Presbytery in organizing
the new church at the meeting house near John Harmon's on the 3rd Saturday
in June 1847; therefore agree to hold our next session on the 2nd Saturday
in June.  
August 1847, Set apart the October meeting for Sacramental
season and invite Elders J. Frost, James R. Haggard, Levi Adkins, A. Agee
and Mark Monroe to attend and assist on the occasion.
March 1848 Set apart
May meeting for Sacramental occasion to commence on Friday before the 3rd
Saturday and petition Elders Joshua Frost, Levi Adkins, Jas. R. Haggard
and Alred Agee to attend and assist in the occasion.
August 1848, Church
set apart the October meeting for a Sacramental season and petition the
following ministers to be present on the occasion:  J. Frost, Levi Adkins,
Elijah Walker and A. Agee. 
August 1849, the Church call Levi Adkins to serve one year as pastor.
April 1850 set apart the June meeting for
Sacramental season and invite Elders Levi Adkins, Joshua Frost, Mark Munroe,
J.W. Miller nad Bradford Demarcus to visit us at that time assist in the
occasion.
March 1851 set apart the May meeting for Communion season and
petition Elders:  J.W. Miller, J.Frost, Levi Adkins and William L. Smith
to attend on the occasion. 
July 1851 Appoint Brethren Elisha Disney,
Richard Adkins and Charles Smith delegates to the Association when convened
at Bethel Church, Anderson County, Tennessee, on Thursday before the 3rd
Saturday in September 1851.
August 1851, set apart the October meeting
for a Sacramental season and petition Elders J. Frost, J.W. Miller, Levi
Adkins, Mark Munroe, Alfred Agee and Elijah Walker to visit us on the occassion.
August
1852, Appoint October meeting for Sacramental season and invite Elder J.
Frost, Levi Adkins, A. Agee and James Hutson to be present and assist in
ministerial aid on the occasion. 
March 1853, Set apart Friday before
the fourth Saturday for Sacramental services and invite Elders James Hutson,
Levi Adkins and A. Agee to attend on the occasion and assist in their ministry.
September
1859, the Church set apart the 2nd Saturday in November 1859 as the date
to constitute the Church  at Deep Ford, Campbell County, Tennessee., and
petition Elders J.W. Miller, J.P. Canada, Wm. R. Jackson, P. Harmon, Levi
Adkins and James Hutson to attend at the time and place and act as Presbytery
on the occassion.
November 1859, A portion of the Presbytery met at Deep
Ford, Campbell County, as set apart and from difficulties surrounding refused
to constitute the Church.  The Church acted on the matter as follows:"Believing
it to be to the Glory of God to have a Church at that place, set apart
the 2nd Saturday in April next to proceed with work and appoint Revs. James
Hutson, P. Harmon, L. Adkins, T. Seber, J.W. Miller, J. Kenneda, Wm. R.
Jackson and S. Hendrickson to act as a Presbytery on the occasion. 
October,
4th Saturday, 1860, Bro. Joel Bowling was ordained to the work of the ministry;
Elders Jas. Hutson, Levi Adkins, J.W. Miller, J.J. Keneda and T. Seiber
acting as a Presbytery on the occasion.
March 1863, set apart the May meeting
for a Sacramental occasion and invite Elders J.S. Lindsay, John A. Wilson,
Levi Adkins and John Corrum to be present at that time.
September 1867,
