Lookup Volunteers

Volunteers are Needed!
Please, send Linda a message if you own any Hamilton County, OH books and would be willing to do lookups, or if your address has changed or you are no longer available to do look-ups.

Please note, if there is no link to an e-mail address below, we have been informed that the e-mail is no longer a working address.

If you are looking for more information or assistance in your research in Hamilton Co., but can't get here to do it yourself, on 4/19/08 I set up a new page to list Researchers who are willing to obtain copies, take cemetery pictures, provide research etc. Costs for expenses incurred or fees for both expenses & time maybe charged. Since the page is brand new, there is no one listed yet. If you are interested in being listed, please see the Researchers page for more information. For those looking for assistance, check back later.

Please feel free to request a look-up following these guidelines:
   1. PLEASE limit your request to ONE name/couple per request and no more than two requests a week.
We want to provide a service, not find full-time employment. [grin].
    2.  Please put HAMILTON COUNTY LOOKUP in the subject line of your request to insure that the message is not overlooked.   Some volunteers also do lookups in other counties, so it is always a good idea to identify what county you are needing a lookup in.
    3.  Send your lookup request to the email address of the volunteer.
    4.  In the first line of the message, please put the name of the book you are requesting the lookup in.
    5.  In the second line of the message, please put your name and e-mail address for reply.
    6.  Describe exactly what you want looked up.
    7.  Don't forget to thank the volunteer.

In addition, our volunteers have no wish to violate copyright on these publications. In some cases, the books are still available for purchase. Please check our Reference Book page to see what is currently available and where to obtain.

Hamilton County, Ohio Naturalzation and Marriage Records in the University of Cincinnati Archives.
No Naturalization Indexes in my copy of the book. Only an index of applications to restore marriage records following the 1884 fire. The actual records were found in 1978 labeled "Miscellaneous Records" and are now stored in the University of Cincinnati Archives. "The individual files contain affidavits from ministers and aquaintances, usually giving the exact date and church of marriage. The name of the "restorer" is also given, and in several cases, this was a son or daughter restoring the parents' marriage record.

In other words, I won't be able to go to the Index and check out surnames when they might be found in someone else's will.   This source contains the name of the Testator, Box No. the will was filed in, the Case No., Date Filed, Executors, and Beneficiaries (sometimes not all abstracted).

Abstract of Book 1 & Book A Probate Record 1791-1826, Hamilton County~ The majority of these probate records deal with estates. The early records are not dated individually but dated according to the period the Court was in session. Probate records between 4 Jan 1826 & 16 Nov 1829 did not survive.  Dates of death are almost never given.  Besides the name of the deceased, the records may include some or all of the following:  The estate administrator(s), bondsmen,  amount of the bond, and appraisers.  Some entries refer to wills, guardianships, real estate appraisals, petitions for partition of land when no will was left, or court orders for land sales.  Land/legal descriptions were not abstracted.

As the cem's. Superintendent and history buff, I have discovered much historical data on the cem. that have not previously been available to the public.  I have also unearthed many tombstones that have been "missing" for over 100 yrs.

"I would like to offer to do lookups for Pilgrim United Church of Christ, Bridgetown; formerly First German Evangelical Protestant Church of Bridgetown (and a few other variations). I have access to the church record books, although I would probably like to have a couple things to look for at a time, and it may take some time to get them done. I believe the books start 1871 and end with 1980. All records past 1980 are on computer, I believe, and probably too recent to be of much use to anyone."
