Russell, March 22. -- Funeral services were held for Mrs. Irene Smith, 31, wife of Joseph Smith, Sunday afternoon at 2:30 from the Russell Methodist church with Rev. Myron E. Van Ornum officiating.
"Mrs. Smith died Wednesday at 1 p.m. very suddenly at her home here. she was born in the town of Fowler on July 16, 1912, the daughter of Mabel Youngs and Ivan Taylor. On Jan. 6, 1937, she was married to Joseph Smith at Gouverneur.
"Besides her husband she is survived by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ivan Taylor of Gouverneur; six children, Charles, Donald, Elva, Helen, Marcia and Joseph, jr., all at home. Three step-children, Elmer of the U.S. Army Air Corps, Edward of Russell and Mrs. Philo (Thelma) Stevenson of Gouverneur. Four sisters, Evelyn Taylor of New York, Clarabelle and Nellie Taylor, Gouverneur, and Mrs. Marion Lashbrooks, Gouverneur; two brothers, George Taylor, Gouverneur, and Raymond Taylor.
"The body was placed in the vault at South Russell cemetery and funeral will be at Gouverneur in the spring." She was buried in Gouverneur, St. Lawrence, NY. Burial place also seen as S. Russell. Joseph Henry Smith and Irene Areatha Taylor had the following children:
