76. Jerusha Anna "Anna" Brotherton TWIN was born on 25 Apr 1869 in Macomb, St. Lawrence, NY. She died on 16 Jan 1932 in Rossie, St. Lawrence, NY. Smith, Anna Denesha, 16 Jan 1932; Rossie, NY, born 25 Apr 1869, Macomb, NY; husband, Nathan Smith; father, Hiram Brotherton; mother, Nancy Fortin, b. Canada. [Sprague funeral home records, Patton transcription] Why Denesha -- perhaps misread from Jerusha?? Her obituary appeared on 16 Jan 1932 in the Watertown Daily Times of Watertown, Jefferson, NY, as follows: "Mrs. Nathan Smith. Mrs. Anna Smith, 62, wife of Nathan Smith, died Saturday morning on the Michael Whalen farm in Rossie, where they had resided since November 1. She was born in Macomb, April 15, 1869, a daughter of Hiram and Mary Brotherton Foster [sic]. She resided all her life in Macomb or Rossie. She had been ill several months. Survivors besides the husband are 11 children, Joseph of Hermon, Wesley of Gouverneur, Ellsworth, Irving and Gilbert of Rossie, and Archie Wade, a son by a former marriage, of Canton; and Miss Myrtle Smith, who resides at home, Mrs. William Devendorf of Macomb, Mrs. Roy Rose, and Mrs. George Harris of Oxbow, and Mrs. William Gladle of Canton. Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Tuesday in Gouverneur Baptist church, with Rev. R. E. Gould, pastor, officiating. Burial was in Roadside cemetery at Richville." She was buried in Wayside cemetery, Richville, St. Lawrence, NY. Note that Anna named a daughter Rosella, and that her grandson remembers Delbert Hunter [for whom he was named] was his mother's cousin. Rosella's obit lists her as a sister. It is remotely possible that Jerusha and Anna are not the same person, but Jerusha is listed on the 1870 census, and Anna on the 1880, each of the right age to be the other. Given Anna's supposed birth date, she should have appeared in 1870.
