One can imagine a Civil War soldier carrying a photo like the one above with him into battle.

Twin boys above - note that they are still in skirts indicating that they were not "trained" yet. 

Above is a photo of the Pittman family with their daughter Kitty (dated 1857).

 

Above photo of Charles and Vesta Loring in 1897.  Little Vesta lived only one more month after this photo was taken.

The Observer Building Museum

displayed this special photo exhibit during the 2007 season.

We invited everyone to come in and see these darling youngsters from the 1800's caught by photographers wearing their finest. To learn why young boys are shown in skirts and with long curls and to ooh and ah over sweet babies and little girls with ringlets. 

We had viewers vote for their favorite and the top three vote getters are below, along with many of the other featured photos.

The photos in this exhibit are all in the collection of the Historical Society, however most are unidentified.  If you can identify any one of these individuals, please lick on the "Contact Us" button above and let us know.
