Funeral Records

The Pointe de l'Eglise: Acadia Genealogical and Historical Society, Inc., in cooperation with the Acadia Parish Public Library, is working to make available more historical information on Acadia Parish and its inhabitants. An important resource is the funeral records of the various funeral homes in the parish. So far, the following funeral homes have given us permission to abstract information from their records:

• Guidry Funeral Home, Church Point, LA
• Gossen Funeral Home, Rayne, LA
• Geesey-Ferguson Funeral Home, Crowley, LA
• Duhon Funeral Home

Books from these abstracted records have been produced and copies have been donated to the Acadia Parish Library for use in the reference library. Copies are also available for sale to the public. For price and availability please refer to the Publications Price List on this site.

These volumes cover a block of years and abstracts are arranged alphabetically by surname of the deceased. Where applicable, the following data elements from the record of the deceased are included:

• Name
• Gender
• Date of Birth
• Date of Death
• Age at Death
• Volume & Page Number of the Funeral Record
• Marital Status
• Name of Father
• Name of Mother
• Occupation
• Funeral Date
• Institution Conducting Services
• Cemetery Name
