On November 17th, 2011, the Lafayette Genealogical Society meeting was called to order by President Brenda
Fuselier, with a moment of silence and the Pledge of Allegiance.
Guests were introduced: Cinday Fontenot Patterson, Ms. Disert.
Nominations for 2012 were introduced:
President - Brenda Fuselier
President Elect - Pat Synder
Vice President - JoAnn Pugh
Secretary - Brenda Thibodeaux
Treasurer - Warren LeBlanc
James Bourque motioned to accept nominations. Pete Lavergne 2nd. Motioned passed.
Annual Christmas banquet will be held at the Petroleum Club on December 8th, at 6:00 pm. Darrel Bourque will
be the guest speaker.
The meeting on the first Saturday of December will be "Show & Tell". Members are asked that they talk about
their accomplishments in their genealogical searches.
Sam Lollar, member and also Library employee, had some Miller books that were being discarded. Members were
welcome to them. He also stated that renovation has not yet started on the old library.
John Douget, husband of Susan Burleigh Douget who wrote "Sous Cette Pierre Repose", a book on the tombstone
inscriptions of the old St. Landry Church Cemetery, in Opelousas, LA. Susan passed away 11 yrs ago, but
John would follow her to court houses and the cemetery and anywhere she needed to go to acquire information
on the cemetery. Before he began his presentation, he recognized Veteran Don Arceneaux, an LGS member.
Concerning the cemetery, he stated that Michel Prudhomme donated land for the St. Landry Church and cemetery
in 1798. Oldest grave to be found is Sarah Hardy, who died on April 7th, 1817. Cemetery Town Group is in the
process of restoring graves.
Treasurer's report $3,016.46.
James Bourque motioned to adjourn, Pete Lavergne 2nd. Motioned carried. Members and guests were invited for
refreshments.
