Melrie L. Smith, 88, Oblong died Friday October 20, 2000 at Crawford memorial Hospital in Robinson, IL. She was born July 15, 1912 in Crawford County and was thedaughter of Glen & Nellie (Albert) Utterback. On June 25, 1932 she married Vern Smith who died July 2, 1988. Melrie & Vern owned and operated the Smith Café in Oblong for several years. Melrie also worked in the cafeteria at Crawford Memorial Hospital in Robinson. She was a member of the First Christian Church of Oblong. She was a member of the MerryMakers of the church, Tuesday Morning Coffee Club and Home Extension Club of Oblong.
Melrie is survived by four sons & daughters-in-laws; Robert & Vevalee Smith, Jerry & Edith Smith, Michael & Barbara Smith and Paul & Diana Smith; thirteen grandchildren; Dr. Robert Lewis Smith, Sandra Smith Lex, Karin Smith, Becky Galeener, Tina Wilhoit, Scott Smith, Christopher Smith, Lindsey Smith, Delissa Murray, Khrystal Thomsen, Brad Lundsford, Eula Marie Thomas & Jeff Lundsford; seventeen great grandchildren; several Nieces, Nephews & Cousins.
She is preceded in death by her Parents, Husband, Daughter Sandra Smith Lundsford; Great Granddaughter Stacy Lynn Galeener; Brothers Mervin & Robert Utterback; Sisters Marjorie Goodwin & Velma Harrison and Son-In-Law William "Charles"
