The automobile would make front-page headlines in The Ojai newspaper as well as across the United States. Stories involving the automobile were constantly being reported as the latest news.  As early as 1904, the papers reported, A number of automobiles have been plying between Ventura and Nordhoff (now Ojai) the past weeks. Thus far no casualty from frightened horses worth mentioning.
Also automobile trips made the news, A party of automobilists ventured from Hotel Foothills to Wheelers Hot Springs. When they returned from their trip without being dashed over the Matilija grade (now Maricopa Highway), they experienced a pleasant sensation of relief, something similar to what we experience when we have passed the horse-scaring auto everywhere on the roads, in safety.

In 1910, the officers of Memorial National Home Foundation formed the corporation named "Bothin Convalescent Home" for Women and Children. Mr. Henry E. Bothin deeded 152 acres of land to this corporation. The old farm house was torn down and a rustic building, now known as "Manor House", was erected that could accommodate 40 patients. It had deep sleeping porches (fresh air was considered important for TB patients) and an outdoor dining room.
In 1948, Miss Ashe offered a small building now known as Little House to the San Francisco Girl Scouts for troop camping. A few years later she made "Manor House" available for Girl Scout use, and by 1955 the entire Bothin property was offered to the Council for its use. The Girl Scouts developed the property as a camp, and added a swimming pool. They changed the name to the "Henry E. Bothin Youth Center."
