Mrs. Montgomery, 74
Dies Near Sugar Valley
Mrs. Sallie (Sarah Lucinda Wood) Montgomery, 74 passed
away at her home near Sugar Valley at midnight last Wednesday
following and extended illness. She was married on February
23,1890 in Whitfield Co., GA to John Alexander Montgomery.
She being the daughter of John Hamilton "Ham" Wood and
Miley E. Barton.
Mrs. Montgomery had resided in this community for many
years, moving from Whitfield county.
Surviving are six sons, D. E. and Will Montgomery, of
Texas; Glenn Montgomery, of LaFayette; Leonard
Montgomery, of New York; J. W. Montgomery, of Sugar
Valley; and Pvt. Julius Montgomery, with the Marines
now stationed at Parris Island, S. C.; two daughters, Mrs.
J. W. ( Lucinda ) Bunch and Mrs. Nora Hartley, of
Gordon county, two brothers, Lewis Wood and Edd Wood,
of Walker county, and several grandchildren and other
relatives.
Funeral services were conducted from the Sugar Valley (Old)
Methodist Church Friday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock, the Rev. E.
F. Cobb officiating. Interment was made in the family lot of
the church-yard cemetery. Kenemer and Combs were in charge.

Dies In Dalton
Leonard Lee Montgomery, 49, of Dalton died in a Dalton
hospital Monday, September 30. He was a former resident of
Gordon County. He was born May 12, 1908 in Whitfield County,
the son of John Alexander Montgomery and Sarah
Lucinda "Sallie" Wood. He married on July 11, 1930 in
Gordon County, GA to Ollie Blankenship.
He is survived by his wife, the former Miss Ollie
Blankenship; four sons. James Lee and Elmer
Montgomery of Calhoun, Thomas Montgomery of the U.
S. Army and Marvin Montgomery of the U. S. Air Force;
four brothers, Glenn Montgomery of LaFayette, D. E.
Montgomery of Texas, J. W. Montgomery of Sugar
Valley, and Will Montgomery of Detroit, Michigan; two
sisters, Mrs. Jim ( Lucinda) Bunch of Plainville, and
Mrs. Mack Donald ( Nora Mae ) Hartley of Rockwood, TN;
several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at the Sugar Valley Old Methodist
Church Wednesday with the Rev. C. A. Kinsey
officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers included J. W. Russell, Roy Seritt, Will
Blankenship, Bill West, Leonard Faulkenberry and George
Holsomback.
Friends extended to James Montgomery their deepest
sympathy at the passing of his father in Dalton the past week.

Mrs. Ollie Mae Montgomery
Mrs. Ollie Mae Montgomery, 91, of Lester Ave. Dalton,
died Sunday morning, January 1, 1995, at Hamilton Medical
Center in Dalton, following a brief illness.
She was born on June 16, 1903, in Gilmer County, daughter of
the late William T. and Leona Parker Blankenship. She
had lived most of her lifetime in Gordon county and was a
member of Sugar Valley Old Methodist Church. She was preceded
in death by her husband, Leonard L. Montgomery; a son,
Elmer
Montgomery; a sister, Mrs. Ola Faulkenberry; and
two brothers Bud Blankenship and Will Blankenship.
Survivors include three sons, James L. Montgomery of
Calhoun, Thomas Montgomery of Dalton, and Marvin L.
Montgomery of Rome; a sister, Mrs. Onie Hensley of
Calhoun; 12 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; a
great-great-grandson; and nieces and nephews.
Funeral was Tuesday, January 3, at 2 p. m. in the Bradley
Anderson Memorial Chapel of Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home,
with the Rev. S. A. Wesley officiating. Pallbearers
were Greg Montgomery, Scott Montgomery, Davis Montgomery,
Paul Sneed, James Baker and Ken Denning. Interment
was in Fain Cemetery.

Elmer Edward Montgomery
Elmer Edward Montgomery, age 39, a resident of Calhoun, prior
to moving to Wilburton, Okla. 14 months ago was killed
instantly Saturday, December 8, in a car accident in Wilberton,
Okla.
Mr. Montgomery was born in Gordon County August 16,
1933 son of Ollie Blankenship Montgomery and the late
Leonard Montgomery, who preceded him in death in 1957.
Before moving to Wilburton, Okla., he was employed by Falcon
Carpets in Dalton, was a veteran of the Korean War, receiving
the Combat Infantry Badge Conduct Medal. He attended
Oostanaula High School and graduated from Calhoun Veterans
School, attended the junior college in Wilburton, studying in
business administration, was a member of the VFW and American
Legion and had spent his early life in the Sugar Valley and
Oostanaula communities. At the time of his death, he was
employed by Comgoleum Industries in Wilburton, Okla., as a dye
technician supervisor.
Mr. Montgomery is survived by two sons, Gary and
Michael Montgomery, both of Dalton; one daughter, Paula
Montgomery of Dalton; mother, Mrs. Ollie Montgomery
of Calhoun; three brothers, James Montgomery of
Calhoun, Marvin Montgomery of Armuchee and Thomas
Montgomery of Dalton; nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles
also survive, including Bud Blankenship of Calhoun.
Funeral services for Mr. Montgomery were conducted
Wednesday at 2 p. m. at Sugar Valley Old Methodist Church with
the Rev. Gordon Mize, the Rev. Melvin Parmer and
the Rev. Vernie Wesley officiating.
Pallbearers serving included Jim Dandy, Max West, Reese
Neal, Helton Hawkins, Charles Baker, and Clifford
Parker. Music was arranged by Mable Harris, Iris Parker
and Mary Wilson.
Burial was in Fain Cemetery
