This is the official home page for the Carroll County GAGenWeb Project. We are a group of volunteers working together to provide Internet websites for genealogical research in every county in the State of Georgia. This Project is non-commercial and fully committed to free access for everyone. To learn more about our parent organization, the USGenWeb Project, visit their website linked here on our pages.
GAGenWeb Project members are located throughout the world, not just in Georgia. We rely on the resources of the Internet and on volunteers who are able to transcribe primary documents to assist us in getting information.
Carroll County was one of five counties created by the General Assembly on June 9, 1825. The counties were not actually named until Gov. Troup signed an act of Dec. 11, 1826. The act of 1825 established boundaries and is considered the date of Carroll County creation. Carroll was Georgia's 65th county.

Treaty of Indian Springs
Carroll was named for Charles Carroll of Maryland, at that time the
last surviving signer of the Declaration of Independence. For additional
information on the history of Carroll County, please see
HISTORY.
Campbell, Douglas, Haralson and Heard Counties have since been created from parts of the original Carroll boundaries.
