Olaus Dybdahl was born Sept. 29, 1844 in Verdalen Norway. He married Bena Andrea Froseth in 1865. Bena was born in 1835 near Levanger, Norway. Olaus emigrated to Brookings County in 1884 and the rest of the family joined him in 1885. They settled on a farm south of Brookings and farmed until 1903 when they moved to Brookings.

Bena died at home in 1914. Olaus spent some years in Long Beach, CA and died in 1918.

Children:  Johannes (John), George, b. 1869, Ivar, b. 1872.

John, b. Aug. 9 1865, d. 1950 married Christina Trygstad, b. 1872, d. 1955. John and Christine farmed in Medary Twp until 1942 when they moved to Glendale, CA.  Children: Otto, Melvin, Julian, Lillian, Edith, Clifford, and Harriet.

George married Nicoline, sister of Christine Trygstad.

Ivar, b. 1872, started Dybdahl Motor Company in 1915. He operated the auto dealership until he retired.  He married Julia Staven and had children Irwin and Dora.

Note: Olaus J. Dybdal, age 39, emigrated July 23, 1884 from Bjugn to Brookings, Dakota.  Bina Dybdahl, age 49, emigrated from Bjugn, May 20 1885 with children Iver O., age 11; Johan O. , age 7; Johannes O., age 19; Jørgen O., age 15 with destination Brookings, SD.
