REV. BEN F. BLANTON DEAD
Leonard Graphic.
A well known and picturesque character of the early settlement of
this section passed away when, at an early hour last Saturday
morning, the spirit of Rev. Ben F. Blanton, answered the call that
comes from the misty realms beyond and of which we know no
other name than death. Deceased was born in South Carolina
Sept.
24, 1838 and spent a part of his boyhood in North Carolina,
Tennessee, and Missouri, moving to Texas in 1856, and with his
parents settled near what is now known as Porter's school house.
When quite a young man he professed religion under the ministry
of Rev. Burl Cox and Rev. Gatewood, joined the Methodist Church,
and became a local preacher of that demoniation in 1872. He was
married to Sarah L. Boone Dec. 3, 1861 and 14 children were born
to them, 11 boys and 3 girls survive as follows: Mrs. V.L. Spicer,
M.T. Blanton, Randolph; Mrs. J.F. Hall, C.H. Blanton, Leonard;

News of the death of Mrs. Ben Blanton reached town Monday.
She was the wife of Rev. Ben Blanton, of Blanton's Chapel community, and
had lived to a ripe old age. She usually accompanied her husband
when he came to town and assisted him in his business transactions.
She was a constant source of help and support to him; and in her, removal
will be greatly missed. Her companionship in the home will no longer
comfort the devoted husband. Memory only is left to cheer him in his declining
years. -- Leonard Graphic.
(note: Mrs. Ben Blanton was the former Sarah L. Boone daughter
of Joseph R.Boone and Virginia E.M. Crenshaw)
Both are buried in the Lindsey
Cemetery in Randolph
