The Goodspeed Publishing Company compiled a series of histories of various counties in the U. S. in the late 19th century. The information in the Goodspeed book of Marion county, Tennessee published in or about 1886, was provided by the contemporary residents of Marion county and her neighboring counties. Although this work carries a published date of 1886, there are many dates mentioned into the late 1890's. This copy of the book is obviously an updated reprint. The biographies are a valuable source of genealogical information, despite a few minor inaccuracies or exaggerated life styles.
