Cash/Singleton

We took another trip to Kentucky in the fall of 2004. My goal this time was to find out who John Cash’s first wife was. We knew her name was Elizabeth. I had found on the lds site that her last name was Hays. But no other proof of that. Chuck Hocker says her last name was Hocker. He also had no proof of that just family lore.

I found the will of George Hocker in which he names many of his children and names his “beloved son-in-law, John Cash”. This will was written before John Cash married Mary E. Hocker so I believe that it does point strongly toward Elizabeth being a Hocker rather than Hays.

I also had the pleasure of meeting and talking with 103 year old, Minor Herndon Cash. Her husband was John Cash, great grandson of John Cash 1809-1882.
