Records of the Bay or Quinte According to this petition a school had been in use in the Village of Fredericksburgh for "upwards of 30 years" and the inhabitants petition for village lots 21, 22, 23 and 24 (3/4 acre each) to be granted to the Municipal Council for use by the school. Only lots 21 and 22 are granted to the village. Thanks to Susan Wright for clarifying where the village of Fredericksburgh is situated. She writes, "Fredericksburgh village is located on the front of the township, Concession 1, just south of farm lots 9 & 10 (which was eventually part of South Fredericksburgh). SS 2 was later known as 'Sandhurst' school section. There is a village map in Meacham's Atlas." Historic Map Works has the 1878 Meacham map of Fredericksburgh showing George St if you zoom in on the map. They also have this county map and you can zoom in and see Sandhurst on the shoreline in South Fredericksburgh Township. Thanks to Carm Foster who did all the transcribing of this petition. Signatures can be a challenge to transcribe. Let me know if you think names have been misread. © Randy Saylor, Feb 2012 Source: |
