Familie Pollacek -1914 extracts ".. Hugo inherited the management of his father's chemical factory and business.. Hugo, together with his brother-in-law Heinrich Brill, built up a very successful chemicalcompany, specializing in shoe polish. Their brand, Armada, was marketedthroughout Central Europe. When they needed to expand capacity they moved production and their offices to Liben, a suburb of Prague. Print ads of which I have copies indicate that they had good marketing savvy. Anita was responsible for some of the creative concepts. As a line extension, they produced a range of ski wax.. Hugo decided to build a fine residence for his family. The Villa was constructed in 1926 to his specifications at U Vorliku 4, Prague 6 "the Villa" on Embassy Row..
Note: Luda died tragically of rat poisoning contracted in a lake at the age of 23. At the time he was engaged to be married to Anita’s best friend, Helena. Luda was apparently an exceptional scholar, especially talented in the sciences. One of his hobbies was making perfume from flower petals. He was a champion skier and his parents endowed a national downhill race in his memory
Note: Josef bought out his siblings, who remained in Vienna. The Joseph Seidler Piano Award "..At the age of 22 Joseph joined his father in business and eventually succeeded him managing his textile factory (now Sporthotel) in Harrachov.. In 1938 Joseph Seidler came to England. In 1940 he was followed by his mother, his dear wife, Anita (nee’ Polacek) and two children, as refugees.. Joseph Seidler’s greatest passion was music, to which he devoted many hours of piano practice... He was still playing at the age of 92.." Up to 1938, the Seidlers lived in a charming wooden chalet next to the factory. Anita was an avid skier and enjoyed nature, however she found the village of Harrachov provincial, so would often take the children to Prague and stay with Grandmother Louise at the Villa OR Sporthotel history pg8 "..1866: Textile factory built by "Fridolin Biemann a Johann Nüsser"; Owners: 1880 "Eckstein a Simon" of Pilsen; 1890 Wenzel Stumpe, later his son "August Stumpe und Söhne"; 1920 "Seidler, Weiss a Grossner" of Vienna; 1926 Josef Seidler; 1939-48 Paul Wunschel.." OR Harrachsdorf-Seifenbach (Harrachov-Rýžoviště)"In Seifenbach No. 51 was from Dec 2, 1920 Karel /Karl reported Steindler, a Jewish employee of the company "Seidler, White & Comp." born in 1890 in Hostomitz (Hostomice) at Dux (Duchcov). He was married to the catholic Ida Švandová (6.12.1904 - ) from Rochlitz on the Iser, with whom he nursed his son Jindrich /Henry (11.8.1923 - ) and this remained non-believers. Probably after the cession of the Sudetenland The family took refuge in the house No. 556 .. in Nová Paka (Neupaka), because this address is given as their last pre-war address "
