Biographical Information Richard Henry Lodge TIGHE was an Episcopal Clergyman also known as the Reverend R. H. L. TIGHE. He graduated from Trinity College in Dublin, Ireland and then moved to the United States, serving first as a teacher, possibly at Sing Sing prison in Ossining, New York, and then in Richmond, Virginia where he met and married Elizabeth Ann MEYERS. The date of his arrival in the United States is uncertain. Some sources say 1843, but if he was born in 1826, he would have been only about 17 years of age in 1843 and wouldn't have been able to have first graduated from Trinity College, so these details remain to be determined. Toward the end or shortly after the Civil War, Richard Henry Lodge TIGHE was ordained as an Episcopal Priest and assigned to a church in Parkville, Brooklyn, New York. From there, on September 19, 1875, he went to Grace Church Chapel in Brooklyn Heights, New York. Grace Chapel (Church of the Immaculate Conception and Clergy Houses) was built in 1894-1896 and is now on the National Register of Historic Places. Richard Henry Lodge TIGHE served as Rector there until his death in 1893, dying of heart failure following a two-month illness after suffering a fall. Two days before he died, he wrote a death notice for himself which read: "Died.-Thursday, at the Parsonage of Grace Church Chapel, 219 High st., Brooklyn, N.Y., the Rev. Richard H. L. Tighe, who has been incumbent of that parish since September 19, 1875, to the last moment of his life, nearly nineteen years." During the course of some research, a Tighe relative - Frances J. TIGHE (1853-1919) - was discovered on a Tighe message board. She was single and worked as a dressmaker and is reported to have died on January 10, 1919 and to have been buried in Green-Wood Cemetery in Brooklyn, New York in the same location as many other members of the family listed here. The record states that she was born in Ireland and that her parents were Donald TIGHE and Maria LODGE. At first glance, this would seem to conflict with the assumption that the older TIGHE in this line was Daniel TIGHE. However, it is clear by the age difference - 27 years - that Frances would not have been likely to have been a sibling of Richard Henry Lodge TIGHE, and she could not have been his daughter, especially if she was born in Ireland. Frances is, therefore, currently an unknown, but a guess might be that her father, Donald TIGHE, was a nephew of Daniel and that her mother, Maria LODGE, was a niece of the Maria LODGE in this line. -------------------------------------------------------------- George Lodge TIGHE (1872-1958) Birth: November 4, 1872 - Jersey City, New Jersey Death: 1958 (Approximately) - Miami, Florida Interment: Green-Wood Cemetery, Brooklyn, New York Father: Richard Henry Lodge TIGHE (1826-1893) Mother: Elizabeth Ann MEYERS (1831-1909) Spouse #1: Jessie Estella HUNTER (1880-1904) b.
