The article below has been compiled and submitted by Evelyn Baker concerning one of Springfield Township's schools. Evelyn has advised that her source for this article is from Arthur Boyd Everden who owns an original collection of West Springfield High School yearbooks. The yearbooks, entitled "Applesauce", have been graciously provided to Evelyn for online transcription. The first of these is from 1925. Arthur Boyd Everden is a Korean War veteran who served with the U. S. Navy onboard the aircraft carrier USS Randolph. He is a lifetime member of the Springfield and Albion American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars. Art is also an avid history buff and a lifetime member of the Springfield Fire Department. 1925 WEST SPRINGFIELD COMMENCEMENT

 

The yearbook was dedicated to Miss LYDIA RISSELL, Faculty Advisor.

A Memoriaum to EUNICE ELIZABETH McCUNE, Freshmen Treasurer and Sophomore President, passed away September 5, 1924 at the age of sixteen. She was in her Senior year, and actively worked to obtain electric lights for the school building. EUNICE was a member of the Baptist Church and The Ford Literary Society.

Senior Class Trip:

On June 3, 1925, the class boarded a special Bessemer train for Washington, D.C. Mr. COMSTOCK, Passenger Agent, collected a reduced rate of $41.37 each for a 6 day tour to Washington. Miss RISSELL attended as class chaperon.

Mrs. McCUNE served as president of the P. T. A.
