MORSE, TRASK posted by Patsy Skeels on Sunday, January 17, 1999

My husband's 3rd-great-grandmother, Hannah MORSE is buried in the Old Empire Pioneer Cemetery. Hannah's first husband was Elbridge TRASK, early pioneer of Tillamook area and subject of Don Berry's novel, TRASK. We only recently discovered that the widowed Hannah later married David MORSE a lighthouse keeper in Empire. When we searched out and finally found the cemetery we were disappointed to see that it was almost totally overgrown with giant scotch broom to the point of being almost impenetrable. We did manage to push our way in and find a few old broken headstones. Does anyone know who owns or has jurisdiction over the cemetery and might be interested in helping us clear it?

BLAKE, BLANKENSHIP, COOPER posted by Peggy Washburn on Sunday, July 4, 1999

I am searching for any information on a Greenville BLAKE, b.7/4/1833, in Greenville Kentucky. After moving to Oregon, he married Sharotte Susan COOPER about 1872 in McMinnville, OR. They had at least one child, Dolly Blake and at some point they lived in Bandon, OR. Greenville's parents were George BLAKE (Ireland) and Mary Ellen BLANKENSHIP and they were married about 1832 in Greenville, KY. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

DIXON posted by Chris Z. on Monday, July 19, 1999

Looking for information on James DIXON. DIXON emigrated from Co. Wexford, Ireland in 1848. He was a lumberman and prior to coming to Coos County spent time in Placer, Marin, Sonoma and Mendocino Counties in California. He owned 7,000 acres of Fort Ross, Sonoma County Califonia and was a member of the California state assembly representing Sonoma County. DIXON died in a logging accident at a mill he ran in Coquille, Oregon on December 15, 1882. Do not know where he is buried or any other information pertaining to his time in Oregon. Thank you.
