Jasper David LANGSTON

Jasper & Newton Langston, 20th Alabama Infantry
     Jasper David LANGSTON, son of Obediah LANGSTON and Virginia E. McELROY, was born on 22 June 1837 in Six Mile, Bibb County, Alabama.1 He was a farmer.

Jasper David LANGSTON appeared on a census, enumerated 1 June 1860, in the household of Obediah LANGSTON in Bibb County, Alabama.2

Jasper began military service at age 24 on 9 September 1861 in Centreville, Alabama, as a private in Co. D 20th Alabama Infantry, CSA and continued until surrender 9 Apr 1865 at Salisbury, North Carolina. He served in the pioneer squad, receiving $11 a month and carried an enfield rifle musket.

Jasper married Cirrenia "Rena" Abagail COTTINGHAM, daughter of Moses Lambert COTTINGHAM and Nancy Catherine WOODS, circa 1868 in Bibb County, Alabama.

Jasper David LANGSTON appeared in a newspaper article 14 July 1910 in the The Centreville Press, published in Centreville, Alabama. Randolph Locals - ...There was a family reunion held at Mr. J. D. Langstons the 4th, and all the chidren and grandchildren spent a delightful day. Mr. Langston is an old soldier of the 20th Alabama Regiment. There are six children and seventeen grandchildren. The oldest forty years old and the youngest twenty-three. A bountiful dinner was spread and enjoyed by all and in the afternoon refreshments were served. A game of ball was enjoyed by the boys at five o'clock, after which all returned to the house and sang "God be with you until we meet again."

Jasper David LANGSTON died on 10 January 1920 in Six Mile, Bibb County, Alabama, at age 82.3 He was buried in Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery.
