Hugh Beanland and Oscar Bryant originally owned the business. It opened after they returned from WW I. Hugh bought Oscars portion, became sole owner and built the brick building.
For awhile Hugh was a Chevrolet dealer and there was a room for new cars called the "showroom". It forever after was called the "showroom".
In the early years of the business, continuing into the 30s, Hugh delivered gas to country stores in Harmon County. Tom Crockett drove the delivery truck. Tom left during WW II to work in a northern state.
A.C. "Jinx" Crocketts Shop was in the west side of the garage doing auto, truck and farm implement repairs.
Summer was the busiest time. Farmers came in the morning and filled 50 gallon barrels with gasoline and purchased oil. Diamond D-X was the brand. Hugh also sold J.I. Case products. I was part-time office help, doing paper work, making deposits, typing gas tax forms, and putting money in cash register.
Hugh went to the business six days a week until a month before his death. In the last years of his life, spending most of the day in his comfortable chair while customers did self-service.
Employees during the years were Medford Young who later bought McQueen Station and Store and Ray Cannedy.
