Norris Monroe
Main, his wife and children, made the "Indian Territory Run" in
1893--the opening of the Cherokee Strip. They found a homestead near the town
of Ringwood, Okla. Sometime before 1902, Norris and family moved to Helena,
Okla., where he owned and operated a hotel.
In this Bible of
Marium Elizabeth (Blake) Main's, was the following letter written by Ford E.
Markle, who had gone to the Oklahoma Territory.
Dec. 14, 1893
"Dear Papa, when are you going to send for us we
would like to come as soon as we can. i have been going to school every
day get my lesson good. there are lots of maddogs. clents dog
wremts (went?) maddog and Nelsom dog was bit by a maddog.
Grandpa how do you like the strip i wish that i could come
pretty som so i could ride my bysickles and so i could catch some dears for
Harry and some for Frank."
