OBITUARY. John Brandenburg was born December 22nd, 1846 at Kings Mills, Ohio, and died at his home in Lebanon, Ohio, July 27, 1925, aged 78 years, 7 months and 4 days. He answered the call of his country, enlisting at Camp Dennison, O., as Private of Caption [sic] Ashbury P. Gatch Co., L. 9th Ohio Cavalry. He was enrolled on the 18th day of November 1863 to serve three years or during the war, and was honorably discharged from the service of the United States, the 20th day of July, 1865, at Lexington, North Carolina. He was with Sherman on the march to the sea, and on through South and North Carolina, he saw hard service. On February 15th, 1868, he was united in marriage to Susan Jane Little,
three children were born to this union, Court, Lottie and Pearl, all having
preceded him to their home above. He has been afflicted for many years, but bore his sufferings bravely, always trying to live under “The Golden Rule.” He leaves a wife, and adopted son, two sisters, three nieces, and a host of friends to mourn their loss. To his wife who understands this separation, as no one else can know – to her will come the unsatisfied longing for a sight of the dear face, hidden away beneath the sod, and a yearning for the familiar voice forever hushed. May she be enabled to look up through her tears and great loss, to the
one who cares and understands. Source: unnamed paper dated 6 Aug
