Life in Pairs

Sun blacken heads with seeds galore.
Birds have come to take their fill,
So fly they might from the window sill.
But one bird stayed and there he sat,
To peck on the glass and defy the cat.

Flower pots of brown stony clay,
Hugged at my feet to be in the way.
Crushed underfoot was some lemon balm,
Aroma now drifts to keep me calm.
Because the scent, it reminds me now,
of cooking and camping and fishing somehow.

Bird on the sill just waits for a call,
Listens and sees his mate just free fall,
From out of the branch she joins him there,
Showing respect and considerate care.
Then together they go, off and fly free,
Heading on up to the nearest tree.

I puzzled at why they stayed so near
Living without a slight case of fear.
I paused to reflect and was now aware,
That all things don't harm to life in pairs.
