[21543] Bluefield Daily Telegraph Jan 29,2008 Polly Moore Whitley Hagy, age 96, of Richlands, Va., formerly of Tazewell, died Monday, January 28, 2008. Born in North Tazewell, Va., she was the daughter of the late Wesley Price Whitley and Catherine (Kate) Lawrence Whitley, both Tazewell natives. Mrs. Hagy was a well respected educator and guidance counselor with the latter part of her career being served at Tazewell High School. She worked in the Tazewell County School System from 1945 until her retirement in 1977. Mrs. Hagy is fondly remembered by her former students, fellow teachers, and colleagues as a devoted educator with a love for reading that she instilled in others. She earned her BS and Master's degrees from Radford College with continued education throughout her career. A lifelong resident of Tazewell County, she was active in both church and civic affairs and served as president of several clubs: Delta Kappa Gamma, an organization for outstanding women educators (a member since 1952), Tazewell Literary Club, American Association of University Women, and the PTA. She was active in the Tazewell Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) Richlands. Church work was an important part of "Miss Polly's" life. She taught Sunday school and led Bible study and was active in women's work. She served as an elder in the Tazewell Christian Church and a deaconess emeritus in the Richlands First Christian Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Rufus Glen Hagy; an infant son, Rufus Glen (R.G.) Jr.; a brother, William Allen (Bill) Whitley and his wife, Grace; brother-in-law,�u��b� �/u��/b�Rex Leslie Nuckolls; and son-in-law, Dr. Emerson Lynn Kirby Sr. Survivors include her sister, �u��b�Mary Price Nuckolls�/u��/b� of Richlands; three children: Daughter, Patricia (Pat) Price Hagy Kirby with whom she had made her home since the death of her husband; and sons, Roger Glen Hagy and his wife Louise of Landrum, S.C., and Dr. John Albert Hagy Sr. and his wife Carol of Rocky Mount, Va. She was blessed with 13 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren. Her special caregivers since 2002: Rachel Clifton, Mary Sparks, Darlene Osborne, Orpha Mullins and Lisa Miller.The Reverend Stafford Compton will be officiating a memorial service celebrating Mrs. Hagy's life in the sanctuary of the First Christian Church (DOC) in Richlands, Va. on Wednesday, January 30, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. followed by visitation and gathering of love in the church fellowship hall.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Christian Women's Fellowship (CWF) of the First Christian Church in Richlands, P.O.
