First Generation
1. Thomas1 Bates was born in Rhode Island December 20, 1789. He died January 6, 1878 in Madison, Lake County, Ohio, at 88 years of age. He married Rachel Palmer in Dutchess County, New York, May 2, 1812. Rachel was born in Dutchess County, New York 1792. Rachel died 1835 in Wellsville, Otsego County, New York.
Thomas Bates and Rachel Palmer had the following child:
2 i. Asenath Bates2 was born in Otsego County, New York July 16, 1816. She died December 26, 1880 in Madison, Lake County, Ohio, at 64 years of age. She married John T. Saxton in Westville, Otesego County, New York, May 19, 1841. John was born in Wellsville, Otsego County, New York December 4, 1818. He was the son of John Saxton and Esther Niles. John died July 23, 1899 in Madison, Lake County, Ohio, at 80 years of age. His body was interred in Ashtabula County, Ohio. (See John T. Saxton for the continuation of this line.)
