Thirty-Seventh Regt. U.S.C. Infantry
HISTORY OF COMPANY "G"
This company was organized in May, 1864, at City Point, Virginia, by Lieutenant James M. MELLON. Its first Captain, James G. MILLER, was discharged November 22, 1864. This Company took an active part in all the battles the regiment was engaged in, doing most efficient service throughout; and in point of drill and discipline may be called the crack Company of the regiment. Its present able Captain, Samuel E. DAY, is an old soldier, and has seen hard service during the war.

Commissioned Officers
Samuel E. DAY - Appointed Captain; was formerly Private in 1st Massachusetts Volunteers, and appointed First Lieutenant of Company A, 37th U.S.C.I. Promoted to Captain.
James G. MILLER - Captain. Appointed October 19, 1863; discharged on Surgeon's certificate of disability.
George A. DARKE - First Lieutenant. Entered this regiment as Second Lieutenant December 6, 1865; was promoted First Lieutenant in October, 1865; transferred to this Company January 12, 1866, and detailed Post-Adjutant and Post-Quartermaster of the Post of Fort Fisher, North Carolina, in April, 1866.
James M. MELLON - First Lieutenant. Appointed October 19, 1864; killed during a mutiny at Camp Hilton, North Carolina, September 23, 1865.
James M. MONROE - Second Lieutenant. Appointed April 30, 1864; dismissed the service for absence without leave May 8, 1865.
Charles DRAYTON - Second Lieutenant. Appointed June 30, 1865; promoted First Lieutenant and Regimental Quartermaster February 26, 1866.
