Watchman Samuel Taylor of the Leadwood Division of the St. Joseph Lead Company, ended his services on January 31st, one month after his 65th birthday.

Sam came into the world along with a new year over in the Belleview Valley near Caledonia. In 1916 he married Rose Fairchild of Sullivan, Mo. He was already employed by St. Joe, having started work in the yard at Leadwood in 1910. At the time of his marriage, Mr. Taylor was working in the milling department. When the Leadwood Mill shut down in 1919, he found employment in St. Louis with the Mississippi Glass Company. He returned to St. Joe in the following year to work as a mineral belt operator.

Mr. Taylor was employed as a carpenter in the Leadwood Milling Department for 18 years. Health reasons occasioned his transfer to a watchman's job in 1955. 45-year veteran Taylor is now a pensioner, ready for days of ease and indulgence in his favorite outdoor sports, hunting and fishing. In younger days he was an ardent fox hunter. His blood still thrills to the memories, but time has changed the pattern of his pleasures along with the condition of his frame.

Samuel and Rose Taylor are the parents of Ernest Taylor of St. Louis County, Clifton Taylor of Leadwood, and Mrs. Norma Dreier, wife of Pope Dreier of Leadwood. Clifton is engaged in the insurance business, connected with the Prudential Insurance Company. Pope Dreier operates a store in East Bonne Terre.
