John Brynra Mine-Related Death (1913)

MINER KILLED AT FLAT RIVER

This morning, (Thursday) a shoveler, working in No. 2 one of the shafts of the St. Louis Smelting & Refining Co., was accidentally injured resulting in his death later. Dr. English, the coroner, was called to the scene of the accident and the facts in the case are reported about as follows:

Some cars filled with ore had been run out and attached to the pulley to be drawn up the incline. About half way up the incline the cars became detached from the pulley and began a rapid decent down the track. Brynro was struck by the rapidly decending cars, his skull was crushed, some ribs broken and otherwise injured. He was taken at once to the Company hospital and his wounds dressed. He did not regain consiousness and died a few hours later.    

Note:  According to Death Certificate below, his name was spelled Brynra.
