William P. O'Connor was an AMMP3 on the U.S.S. Bogue VGS-9 Carrier with the U.S. Navy serving in the Atlantic Fleet, 1942.

The Bogue and crew received a presidential unit citation and three battle stars for extraordinary heroism in action against enemy submarines in the Atlantic Area from April 20, 1943 to Aug. 24, 1944.

German undersea operations threatened the flow of supplies to the European theatre of operations.  The Bogue was credited with the sinking of 13 submarines and U-boats.

O'Connor also received American Campaign and European Campaign Ribbons and a Good Conduct Medal.
