John M. Smith (deceased) was a Private First Class in the U. S. Army during World War II, serving with the 338th M. P. European Sector.

He was the first man drafted from St. Francois County and served from Feb., 15, 1941 to Sept 11, 1945. He served in the European Theater, including Rome Arno, Rhineland and Southern France Campaigns. Information supplied by Denny A. Smith, Park Hills
