Dr. Benjamin R. Downing died in the Bonne Terre Hospital, Thursday morning [April 19, 1917], at 4:30, afer an illness of about five weeks. He went to St. Louis some five weeks ago and underwent an operation in Mullanphy Hospital. He came home in about three weeks after the operation and apparently was getting along very nicely until the first of this week when it became necessary for him to enter a hospital again for treatment. His illness really dates back to more than a year ago when he had a severe attack of pneumonia and an operation became necessary at that time, in fact, he had just recovered from that operation when he came to Desloge and formed a partnership with Dr. N. M. Fuller and assumed the practice of Dr. Turley. The deceased was for many years, prior to his coming to Desloge, one of the leading physicians of Farmington. His father was at one time Railroad and Warehouse commissioner of this state.
He leaves to mourn his death a wife and three children, Gale, Alexander and Green, besides a host of other relatives and friends.
The funeral services were conducted at the home Friday afternoon at 1 o'clock, by Rev. Madison Combs. Interment was made in Farmington.
